THIGH LIFT

The deformities in body contour after weight loss associated with bariatric surgery include a diverse array of manifestations that potentially involve every part of the body. After a quick and massive weight loss, there is a sudden change in the body mass index which leads to an excess of skin and soft tissues, as well as a loss in skin tone. Thus, as the person keeps losing weight, the skin and soft tissues do not retract, they become redundant and collapse, and because of the characteristics of the tissue, the only way to get rid of it is with surgery. Of all the areas of the body, the thighs are perhaps the most affected by these, since all the redundant tissues from the lower belly, pubic area and buttocks contribute directly to the build-up of tissue around this area, on top of the fat from the actual inner thigh. The thigh lift is a surgical procedure that improves the contour of the thighs in these patients.

It is done under general anesthesia, and the incisions depend on the areas to be treated, the degree of correction and the preferences of the patient and surgeon. There are two types of thigh lift according to the areas to correct. The medial thigh lift involves the inner thigh. An incision is made on the area where the thigh meets the pubic area, and a wedge of skin and fat is removed, which leads to the tightening of the skin and a better leg contour. On the other hand, the lateral thigh lift is performed in order to tighten the skin on the front and outside of the leg. The incision is made on the top part of the leg, where the lower edge of your underwear would be. A certain amount of skin is removed and then the remaining skin is pulled and attached to the same area. The results of the surgery are almost immediately visible but may take several weeks to completely develop.
